In the XIXth century painters like Monet, Pissaro, Sisley, Renoir, Degas, Manet or Maurice de Vlaminck, came to the Chatou island, attracted by the particular light of the place, today this island is called “Impressionists island”.
Around 1985, in Chatou a small group of painters came together to study and practice the work of Liane Collot d’Herbois, an english artist and therapist, close friend to Ita Wegman.
In 1990 this group found a place where they can work and receive students and a public.
In 1992 this initiative stops and the meetings became privat. By that occasion the place got the name of “Les Ateliers du Present”. see references below.
In 1996, Liane Collot d’Herbois with Janny Mager visited her editor in Chatou, where they stayed at the Atelier du Present. There she gave two lectures, reserved to physicians and their therapists, pedagoges and artists . Around 150 persons were present in the big hall of the Atelier du Present.
Shortly after that happening Chantal Bernard with Janny Mager, accompagnied by Fredy van Bueren and the group of french therapists began a research into the Collot therapy and patient cases.
In 2000 as a result of that a charcoal course started.
In 2002 on request of the participants, a first artistic and therapeutic Collot training began, which was followed up by three more therapeutic Collot trainings of 4-6 years each.
Since 2008 our training is accredited by the EA- European Academy- later transformed into iARTe-International Coordination of Anthroposophic Arts Therapies and Education- This institution, recognised by the medical section of the Goetheanum, Dornach, Switzerland, is responsible for the evaluation and the quality of anthroposophic art therapy trainings.
