Three artists, three researchers and the mystery of colour: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Rudolf Steiner and Liane Collot d’Herbois revisited.
JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE 1749-1832
Beyond the sum of experiences offered in his Treatise on Colours, Goethe proposes a revolutionary method for approaching coloured phenomena, a method that integrates the observer into the experience. What many scientists generally refuse to do, considering the observer as subjective – therefore subject to error -, he makes it a formidable means of knowledge.
RUDOLF STEINER 1861-1925
Among his many fields of investigation, Steiner brings fundamental elements on the being of color and that of the human being. It reveals one of the most important mysteries of these two entities, that of being mediators in balance, movement and tension between two polar worlds.
LIANE COLLOT D’HERBOIS 1907-1999
Collot brings together in a decisive way and in a remarkable unity the different relationships existing between the being of colour and the human being. She masterfully shows how the latter is accompanied throughout its evolution by color. She will also expand her knowledge to the therapeutic field.
Steiner said that Goethe’s theory of colors would “only be understood later (…), maybe only in the second half of the 20th century or even the first half of the 21st century.”
The facts seem to prove him right. What Steiner and Collot have added to it is even less known and brings a number of new elements of response to a question that becomes essential in our time, that of our relationship with the world.
And the color is a very pleasant way to approach it!
